There may not be a better time of year to foster a charitable spirit within your family than during the holiday season, especially considering the fact that many, less fortunate children and families are unable to experience all the joy of the holidays. To help those families out, here are a number of great charities you can contribute to this Christmas.
Toys for Tots
A United States Marine Corps-supported organization, Toys for Tots will deliver any toy you’ve purchased to a child in need. All you have to do is drop off a toy of your choosing to any U.S. Marines’ drop-off location before the holiday. That gift will then be distributed to a child in your own community.
Make-A-Wish Foundation
The Make-A-Wish Foundation offers a plethora of ways for people and communities alike to help children with life-threatening health issues. While their larger-scale donations and charitable acts are often seen around the world, anyone can donate.
This organization partners with many different organizations, allowing you to donate a portion of your payment directly to them. Department store giant Macy’s asks customers of all ages to drop off letters to Santa, and for each letter submitted, Macy’s will make a $1 donation to Make-A-Wish.
Christmas Spirit Foundation
This organization donates Christmas trees to military families all over the country whose members are currently serving overseas, unable to spend the holiday with their loved ones. Additionally, the Christmas Spirit Foundation delivers trees to U.S. military bases for troops and their families currently living on their premises.
Operation Christmas Child
Through shoe boxes filled with gifts, candy, hygienic items, and school supplies, Operation Christmas Child allows donors to put these custom boxes together depending on age groups. All that’s required is a small monetary donation to cover associated shipping fees. Those who donate these boxes can even track their journeys if they donate online.
Angel Tree
Angel Tree is a great charity that helps children with incarcerated parents. This Christian charity’s objective is to provide children with the spirit and gospel of Christmas when their parents are unable to do so themselves. Donors can choose to sponsor specific children, or donate through the organization’s website.
